THE GOLDSTONE REPORT Several UK parliamentarians have initiated efforts to investigate improper use of British military exports to Israel for attacks on civilians. Last week, the US, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Ukraine were the only countries to vote against the UN Human Rights Council resolution to create a committee of experts to monitor the implementation of the Goldstone Report, and to hold a conference discussing the application of the Fourth Geneva Convention to Palestine. We encourage you to contact the government of the United States of America and tell them what you think of their policies regarding Israel and the Goldstone report:
Here is a sample letter: To Mr./Mrs. Elected Official, I appeal to you as my elected official to represent peace and justice by endoring the Goldstone report as backed by the United Nations and the European Parliament. The continued reluctancy of the United States to do this has further damaged its reputation and integrity. Israel continues to spend American tax dollars for the destruction and siege of Gaza and Palestine as a whole. Unarmed civilians, including 2 young boys, have been shot and killed by the Israeli military and hiding behind the umbrella of the American flag. I urge you to take accountablility because my community and the rest of the American people can no longer be complicit to the injustices. We must demand that the truth be heard and that those claiming to speak in our name stop manipulating truths that have been well-documented for years, long before the Goldstone report. We are also appalled by the Obama Administration’s reaction to the report. We call for a fair and impartial investigation of the report’s allegations by non-military institutions in Israel. Failing that, we call for an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Sincerely, Call for sanctions against Israel for its persistent and systematic violation of international law and human rights. Make Palestine an electoral issue in your country.
